Palak roti with organic spinach powder

Palak means spinach. This roti mixes Shuddha Sattva Organic Spinach Powder, 100 g into whole-wheat dough. Palak powder on this page means that dried spinach leaf, the same powder you can stir into rotis, parathas and dal. Start with a small spoon the first time.

This is not medical advice. If you have a health concern, speak to a qualified practitioner first.

Ingredients (about 4 rotis)

  • 2 cups whole-wheat flour (atta)
  • ½ tsp Shuddha Sattva Organic Spinach Powder, 100 g the first time. You can go up to about 1 tsp in these 2 cups of atta once you know the taste. Do not start at the larger spoon.
  • Water, a little at a time, for a soft dough
  • A pinch of salt
  • Ghee (clarified butter) or oil, for the tawa

Method

  1. Mix: Stir the spinach powder into the flour and salt so the green colour is even. Add water and knead a soft dough. Rest it for 10 minutes.
  2. Roll: Divide the dough into 4 balls. Roll each one evenly so the colour is not patchy.
  3. Cook: Cook both sides on a tawa (a flat griddle). Add a little ghee or oil at the end.

Taste note

Dried spinach powder can taste earthy. See why herbal powders taste earthy. Salt in the dough and a little ghee on the tawa keep this a normal roti. If the first roti tastes strong, use less powder next time.
